Also, please be sure to check your warranty guidelines before using any procedure on warranted carpet, and to test a small area for colorfastness before using any procedure on an Oriental or other area rug.



Mix solution of: 1qt. warm water, 1 tsp. Biz brand detergent booster, 1 tsp. liquid dish detergent. Using mainly suds and a soft household scrub brush, shampoo the area gently. Do not rub too aggressively or you may cause texture change. Dab lightly.


Spot cleaning fluid, such as Energine, available at grocery, discount, & hardware stores. Follow package instructions.


Mix solution of: 1qt. warm water, 1.6 oz. Ammonia, and 1tsp. liquid dish detergent. Use same technique as with Home Detergent/Biz solution.


Like spot cleaning fluids, rust removers are available at grocery, discount, & hardware stores. Be sure to purchase one that is safe for carpeting.


Apply hair spray to cloth or towel and wipe gently across spot.


1. Time is of the essence when the spill is fresh. The more quickly you attempt to remove it, the more luck you are likely to have. Once a spill is dry, your chances of removing it are much less.
2. Blot or scrape up as much excess as possible before using any cleaning technique. Then, when you've finished the steps, be sure to blot again with clean, absorbent cloth or paper towels.

 
Animal and Children Upsets - Urine/Vomit
Anything with Dye
Shampoo with home detergent/Biz solution.
Blot lightly with household vinegar.

These stains (wine, Kool-Aid, dog food, mustard, etc.) are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to remove. Within 24 hours, some of these may come out of stain-resistant carpets; call the manufacturer or consult warranty guidelines for recommended course of action. Otherwise, try home detergent/Biz solution.

Beverages
Blood
(tea, coffee, alcohol, soft drinks, milk, juice, Kool-Aid), Shampoo lightly with home detergent/Biz solution.

Sponge with cold water. Then, shampoo lightly with home detergent/ammonia solution. Blood may be permanent once it has dried.

Candle Wax
Candy, Sugar, Chocolate, Etc.
Put the point of a warm iron over paper towels over the spot, to slowly melt the wax onto the paper. Keep changing the toweling as the wax is transferred. Be very careful not to scorch the carpet.

Scrape away as much as possible. Shampoo lightly with home detergent/Biz solution.

Chewing Gum
Cosmetics
Freeze with ice cubes. Break or cut off hardened gum. Blot remaining gum with cleaning fluid or paint thinner. Let solvent work for a few minutes & scrape off.

Use spot cleaning fluid. Let dry for a day. Then, shampoo with home detergent/Biz solution.

Egg, Fruit, Gelatin & Ice Cream
Fats, Butter, Grease, Oil
Shampoo lightly with home detergent/Biz solution.

Fresh Paint
Furniture/Shoe Polish
Immediately blot up excess, and thin remaining paint with its recommended thinner. Blot up thinned paint & repeat as necessary.

Use spot cleaning fluid. If stain remains, let fluid dry for a day, and shampoo with household detergent/Biz solution.

Ink
Iodine, Medicine
Use hair spray, and repeat as long as color is coming up. Then, shampoo with home detergent/Biz solution.

Blot up with paper towels, but do not work on further. You may spread these spots if you try to clean them. Call Woodard.

Nail Polish
Rust
On synthetic carpets, blot up excess, but do not do the following. USE THE FOLLOWING ONLY ON COTTON OR WOOL RUGS: Apply nail polish remover and sponge with cloth. Repeat until stain is gone.

Use rust remover as directed.
Be sure the label says it is safe for carpet.

Unknown Stains
Scrape or cut off as much as you can. Use spot cleaning fluid & repeat as necessary.
