- Overcast
An overcast stitch follows the contours of
the damaged end by securing the weft and the knots
with a stitch usually about 2 rows deep on the rug.
- Even
and Overcast An even and overcast will
remove all damage down to the first full line of
weft, then overcast across the end.
- Reweave
Kilim & Hand Knot Fringe This is
a restorative repair. The Kilim is re-woven with
its warp and wefts then the fringe is knotted to
give the rug the most authentic repair.

When
the serging comes loose on your rug, the most effective
way to repair is by using a wool yarn and wrapping
the yarn around the damaged area.
Generally
with moth damage, some pet damage, or basic wear,
the damage only extends to the pile. The pile of the
rug is missing, but the foundation is still intact.
There are a couple of options we can use to repair
these situations:
- Retufting
We work through the back of the rug and loop
wool into the face. The loops are then cut, which
creates a new pile.
- Repiling
We use the foundation and determine the appropriate
knot style and add the pile back in by knotting
around the foundation yarns.

When
the floor can be seen through the top of the rug,
a more extensive repair is required.
- Rebuilding
the Foundation If the foundation is missing
in a particular area it will weaken the rest of
the rug around it and therefore must be rebuilt.
After the foundation is rebuilt we can re-knot the
pile.
- Plugs
Once the plug has been chosen, we cut it
to fit and then stitch it into the hole. It is then
secured with burlap and latex reinforcement

A
cloth tape is applied to the sides and stitched to
secure raw edges.
A
cotton thread is wrapped around the edge of the carpeting
to secure raw edges for a more elegant appearance.

The
fringe is applied by a machine, offered in knotted
or straight, with several colors to choose from.
Woodard
also sells high-quality padding! A good pad will extend
the life of your rug, keep the rug from slipping,
and protect the floor underneath the rug. Rug padding
also makes walking and sitting on your rug a more
comfortable experience.
